No Code, No Setup: What You Actually Do to Get an AI Phone Agent
"No code" usually means "no code, but forty settings." This post lists exactly what you do yourself to get an AI agent answering your phone on Daber AI, and what the built-in assistant handles. Short version: you describe your business and make four decisions. The rest is done for you.
What you do yourself
1. Sign up. An email address and a sentence or two about the business, or its website. Daber AI drafts a first agent from that while you confirm your email.
2. Describe what you want, in your words. Open the assistant panel (AI Assistant, top right, or ⌘J / Ctrl+J) and talk to it the way you'd brief a new receptionist: what the business does, what callers usually ask, when to hand a call to a person.
3. Check the answers. The agent answers from facts you approve. The assistant writes them as drafts; you read them and say "approve." This is the one step we won't skip for you, because an answer you haven't read shouldn't reach your customers.
4. Listen to it. Call your agent from the browser. It's free, up to 30 test minutes. If something sounds off, tell the assistant what was wrong.
5. Turn it on. Click the button to start: $3 for a 14-day launch with 30 call minutes, then the Starter plan at $49 a month unless you cancel. Pick a phone number (US and Canada for self-serve today), and calls start reaching your agent.
That's the whole list.
What the assistant does for you
Everything you'd otherwise need to learn the dashboard for:
| You say | The assistant does |
|---|---|
| "Answer in English and Spanish, warm but brief." | Writes the agent's instructions and language settings. |
| "Here's our FAQ." | Splits it into separate answers, saves them as drafts, attaches them to the agent once you approve. |
| "Here's the script our front desk uses." | Builds a call flow with the steps and branches, and checks every path ends properly. |
| "Send emergencies to my cell." | Sets up the transfer to a person. |
| "Test a caller who wants to cancel." | Runs a test conversation and shows you the transcript. |
| "Why did that call go badly?" | Reads the conversation and suggests a change to the instructions. |
| "Call these 50 customers about their renewal." | Builds a campaign, checks it's ready, and asks you before launching. |
It knows which page you're on, so you can say "this agent" or "this campaign" without naming it.
What stays yours on purpose
Four kinds of action always stop for your Approve click, even when you've asked for them:
- anything that spends money (a call, a plan, a campaign launch);
- anything that reaches a person (a call, a campaign, an email);
- anything that deletes data;
- anything that publishes something outside your workspace, like a shareable link.
The card shows exactly what's about to happen. Cancel, and nothing does.
Paying and getting your phone number are buttons in the dashboard, not assistant actions. They involve your card, and that should never happen inside a chat.
How to undo things
- Version history: every change to an agent or call flow is saved as a version. Roll back with one click.
- Audit log: every change the assistant makes is recorded under your name, with what it changed.
- Drafts: knowledge answers don't reach calls until approved.
Who this is for
Businesses that want their phone answered well and don't have, or don't want to spend, a technical person on it: clinics, law offices, home-service companies, agencies, shops. If you can explain your business to a new hire, you can set this up.
