Put an AI receptionist on the phone system you already have

No new provider and no new number: your system sends the calls you choose to the agent, and the agent can send callers back to your people.

    The short answer

Can an AI receptionist work with my existing phone system?

Yes. If your phone system can send calls over a SIP trunk, it can route them to a Daber AI agent without changing your number or provider. You choose which calls go there: all of them, after hours, overflow when everyone's busy, or one branch of your menu. The agent can bridge callers back to a person, including a specific extension. Hosted systems such as RingCentral work through call forwarding instead, not a native integration.

What a SIP trunk does here

SIP is the standard protocol internet phone systems use to set up, transfer and end calls. A SIP trunk is a connection that carries calls between two systems over it. When your phone system has a trunk to Daber AI, it can hand a call to the agent the same way it hands one to an extension, and the agent can hand it back.

    • Answer the calls your routing sends: every call, after hours only, overflow, or one menu option.
    • Transfer a caller to a person. A bridged transfer dials your rep, including a specific extension, joins them to the live call, then the agent steps out.
    • Record every call with a transcript and a summary, the same as on any other number.

    SIP trunk or call forwarding?

Both keep the number your customers know. Which one fits depends on your phone system.

Using RingCentral? Forward calls to the agent

Daber AI has no native RingCentral integration, and doesn't need one to answer your RingCentral calls. RingCentral lets you set call forwarding rules on an extension that send incoming calls to an external number, in the RingCentral app or the Admin Portal. Point that rule at your agent's Daber AI number and the agent answers those calls. Our RingCentral forwarding guide has the settings, including how to forward all calls or only the ones nobody picks up. The same approach works for other hosted phone systems.

What you need for a SIP trunk

A phone system or provider that can send calls to an external SIP destination. If you aren't sure, ask your provider; if it can't, use call forwarding.

    1. 1Sign up for Daber AI, build the agent and test it in your browser.
    2. 2Check with your phone provider or IT person that your system can route calls over a SIP trunk to an outside destination.
    3. 3Set up the trunk between your phone system and Daber AI, and decide which calls use it: all, after hours, overflow, or one menu option.
    4. 4Set the transfer targets: the extensions or numbers the agent bridges callers to when they need a person.
    5. 5Start with a small share of traffic, listen to the recordings, then widen. Removing the rule sends calls back to the way they were.

    An example call

A dental clinic's office phone system rings the front desk for 20 seconds, then sends the call over the SIP trunk to the agent. A patient calls during the lunch rush to ask whether the clinic takes their insurance and to book a cleaning. The agent answers from the clinic's knowledge base and books the slot. A second caller has a cracked tooth and wants to talk to someone; the agent bridges them to the hygienist's extension, waits until she picks up, then drops off the line.

    Where it stops

A SIP trunk connects two systems. It doesn't change what either one does:

    • Your phone system has to support SIP trunks to an outside destination. If it doesn't, use call forwarding or a Twilio number.
    • Daber AI doesn't replace your PBX. Extensions, hold music and menus stay where they are.
    • There are no native connectors for hosted phone systems like RingCentral or Voicenter. They work through call forwarding, or SIP where the provider offers a trunk.

    Questions

Is there a RingCentral AI receptionist integration?

Not a native one. RingCentral can forward calls from an extension to an external number, so you forward them to your Daber AI agent's number and the agent answers. You keep your RingCentral number and setup. Our RingCentral forwarding guide shows where the setting is.

Do I have to change phone providers?

No. You keep your provider and your number, and route only the calls you choose to the agent. You can remove the route at any time.

Can the agent send a caller back to my staff?

Yes. It can do a cold transfer, or a bridged transfer that dials your rep, including a specific extension, brings them into the live call and only then steps out.

What's the difference between a SIP trunk and forwarding?

A SIP trunk connects your phone system to the agent directly, and your system's routing decides which calls go there. Forwarding sends calls from your line to the agent's phone number. Forwarding is easier to set up; a trunk fits office phone systems that already use SIP.

Can I bring a Twilio number instead?

Yes. Calls can also arrive on a Twilio number from your own Twilio account, which suits teams that already run their phone numbers there.
